A few answers to a few questions
s
Q. Who is Jude?
Jude is the wife of Jude's husband. She's the one that looks after everyone; dogs, cats, chickens, horses, sheep and alpacas included.
s
Q. When was Jude's born?
Jude's first batch of ice cream was made in the winter of 2002, and our first delivery was to the Chestnut Horse pub across the field. Jude herself is a bit more reluctant to reveal her age!
s
Q. What is it like working as a family business?
We love opening our home to all who work for and visit us at Jude's. It just gets a bit crazy when there is pasteurising to be done, dogs to be walked, vans to be packed and dinner to be made. Life is never boring!
s
Q. Where is Jude's made?
Jude's is made in a barn in the village of Twyford in Hampshire.
s
Q. What are your ethics?
Jude's is an all inclusive family business that strives to have a positive impact on the local community and environment. Jude's actively supports local causes, donating 10% of profits each year to charity. Charities that we support include Naomi House Children's Hospice, and Emmaus Hampshire.
s
Q. What about the environment?
We find this area very challenging but are always trying to make changes to reduce our carbon footprint. These include recycling all the cardboard, plastic and metal that we use, recycling thousands of litres of water every day (this water cools the freezers) and buying energy-efficient equipment. We also use local suppliers wherever possible to reduce food miles.
s
Q. What is the hardest flavour to make?
Making sorbets that have alcohol in them is really difficult (think Mulled Wine or Gin and Tonic). The alcohol in the mix reduces the freezing point (a bit like when they spread salt on the roads in winter) sometimes so much that your tongue sticks to the spoon!
s
Q. What is Jude's favourite flavour?
In a recent poll Jude' s staff voted salted caramel to be there favourite flavour. Other close runners up were pistachio, chocolate and mango sorbet.
